Welcome to the Mad Cows' blog

Welcome to the Mad Cows' blog!

The Mad Cows is the EUI's female five-a-side soccer team. We play just for fun and absolute beginners are warmly welcomed. Playing with the Mad Cows is a nice way to do some sports and meet new people to share some beers with. The members of the Mad Cows come from all environments and all nationalities: EUI researchers from all the departments, partners, members of the staff and people from outside the EUI world.
See you on the pitch!

A CARNEVALE OGNI SCHERZO VALE: MAD COWS 1 - MONTERIDOLFI 2

This time no masked people on the pitch, but a strange mood that makes carnival one of the most sad celebration, in my opinion: the need to take everything easy and the consequent lack of consciousness of the reality. Well, if "semel in anno licet", on the pitch never! Otherwise you will be punished..
Away from "philosophy", everyone shall know all along that match will get bad, but.. It must be told before how! The best suited and warmed for the match was surely the referee: he rode an half hour the pitch, all alone, tried many kicks on the goal, and made some proper exercise, both teams otherwise, came later and, as said, in "carnival mood". Well, at least one of the supporters of the Monteridolfi's team was sheltered by a "masked umbrella", just to make the mood less sadly light, like the light rain that was raining.
The match started also lightly, but not so slowly. By the physical point of view, the Monteridolfi likes a football near to that of the mucche, where, usually players play only with legs and ball, not brutal force and tricks.
So, for the most of the time the match was very balanced and, except the rapid changes of side, only a plenty of free kicks must be noticed. The referee was active indeed, as we are not used to see so often. Now, although these many free kicks, no one is worth to be noted except a couple: one against the mucche at 17th minute, safed by Elena in a spectacular way: she intercepted the hit with the body and drove it away from the area, running ball at the feet up to the midfiled. One other, at 22nd, this time for the mucche, gained and shot by Sara. This free kick must be mentioned because maybe the only dangerous: the ball hitted the barrier making an insidiuous "neat ball", safed by the goalie, but with some trouble. End of the first half.
Second half, again free kicks, but at the second chance -and 2nd minute- Sara brutalize with the kick the goalie who deflected the ball for a free Mi Ah. 1-0! Mi Ah scores. After, the match continues in the same way and with some other free kick and corner, the mucche up now were good, with enough ball possession and becoming even more fighting. But when more harassed also more confused. After some more minute the mucche were constantly loosing meters and concentration up to a corner for the Monteridolfi: one of them kicked from left corner for another at right, left free to shot at the first post. 1-1, it was the 13th, and the mucche lost definetly the nerves and concentration. The picture of this moment is a suicide whirlpool of Stefania triyng to kick away the ball in an attack, fortunately the shot was off the sight and gone out, but the poor girl felt injured -maybe, due to the centrifugal force-. Despite the loose of concentration at the 21st, Sara hits a good post but.. Few istant after, comes the carnival's joke: the Monteridolfi scores. 2-1 and neither a generous extra-time could make the mucche up.
