Welcome to the Mad Cows' blog

Welcome to the Mad Cows' blog!

The Mad Cows is the EUI's female five-a-side soccer team. We play just for fun and absolute beginners are warmly welcomed. Playing with the Mad Cows is a nice way to do some sports and meet new people to share some beers with. The members of the Mad Cows come from all environments and all nationalities: EUI researchers from all the departments, partners, members of the staff and people from outside the EUI world.
See you on the pitch!

13 September 2013

We will miss you, Adriana!

The Mad Cows preseason has been a great success: we have trained every Monday and Wednesday in September, with a great number of people participating and lots and lots of goals; just this week, we scored 17 times!

We wanted to start the season 13/14 at mid-September, but we are working on a surprise to finish the preseason in a really wonderful way, that we hope you will enjoy. For this reason, we will start the season at Wednesday the 2nd of October with new training hours: from 19 to 21, instead of training from 17.30 to 19 as we temporarily do on Wednesdays.

This week we welcomed two Francesca to our training: Francesca J. who have been playing in the Mad Cows for a looooong time and Francesca Loria (first-year Economic's researcher), who we hope will play with us, for at least as long as the other Francesca has! Sadly, we also had to say goodbye to Adriana, who finally has finished her thesis (congratulations with that!). We wish her all the best and we hope, she will do one last 'joga bonito' when she will be back in Florence to defend her thesis. Ci mancherai, cara! We would like to congratulate Emilie for her birthday and for coming to celebrate it by playing soccer with us. We congratulate also Bea, who celebrated her birthday at the end of August!

In spite of some amazing final scoreboards (5-4 on Monday and 5-3 on Wednesday, with a fabulous and sweaty hat-trick by Hanna), there are still lots of balls not ending up in the goal and also some bad passes. On Wednesday, thanks to Jonathan's help, we practised penalties from outside the area, with a brilliant performance by Núria 'The Wall' who stopped all the balls with different parts of her body! We should improve the position on the field and how to play as defence but, step by step and as we keep playing together, we will be doing better.

As you know, this year we would like to play in a Florentine five-a-side tournament (where we have already played some years back) and, for this reason we might benefit from occasionally doing some exercises to improve our soccer skills. Without a doubt, coming to these sessions will be strictly voluntary and independent from any participation in the tournament.

   Have a nice weekend!
