Welcome to the Mad Cows' blog

Welcome to the Mad Cows' blog!

The Mad Cows is the EUI's female five-a-side soccer team. We play just for fun and absolute beginners are warmly welcomed. Playing with the Mad Cows is a nice way to do some sports and meet new people to share some beers with. The members of the Mad Cows come from all environments and all nationalities: EUI researchers from all the departments, partners, members of the staff and people from outside the EUI world.
See you on the pitch!

Let's enjoy it... SLOWLY!

Dear Mad Cows!

Today we have a very difficult game, the first of four games, namely: Golden Gaya - Breack Balls - Quinto Alto - Golden Gaya (again!), in the Classifica in the 3rd, 2nd and 1st position respectively!!! But today we don't play at Virgin (it means good luck for us!) and it is Friday & 13th (it means, we hope, bad luck for them!).

Last training we practiced catenaccio defense and none got injured. So, if all the sick players have recovered their strong and health, we are gonna present good battle!! The match will take place at 9:30pm at Pol. Novoli

The squad list is the following:
  • Bea 'The miracle' (as a goalie)
  • Nú(t)ria
  • Inken 'Tiger'
  • Mira 'Gazelle'
  • Sanne 'Blond torita'
  • Ieva 'The Word'
  • Francesca 'La fantastica asfaltatrice'
  • Lai(l)a Fox Sánchez von Darth Vader, former Laia
Of course we will need all the possible support from our Curva! Hanna, Emilie (and her sticks) and Romain have already confirmed their presence to perform an amazing spettacolo!

The meeting point is at 20:15 at Piazza Le Cure

The Word of Ieva for today's match:

The Word (Mira is allowed not to read this further) = RUN!!!

Yes, just like him: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGwzK0kkGxo (and yes, this is a hidden ad of Nike, they just transferred me a bit of money this afternoon)

And if after running you still are able to think a bit, use some theatre techniques, all right? Meaning, we should try to slow down the pace of the game with every possible means. Because, let's be honest, in average they score 7,6 goals in a game. They will be more fit, with better ball drible techniques, etc. And the less breaks in the game, the better for them to catch the rhythm of the game and to impose it on us. Also, the faster the game, the more time they have for ball control, and the more goals we will get in our box. What do we conclude from this? Let's enjoy it slowly! After all, it is healthy sometimes not to show the potential of your brains and to be a bit retarded.

In other words, time works on our side already from the very 1st minute of the game (unless we somehow appear to be in situation when the end of the game is very close and we lose just with 1 or 2 goals. hmmmm... forget about it).

And what does that mean? = You need to lace up your shoes? DO IT!!! You don't need to lace up your shoes? Who cares, DO IT ANYWAY!!! Just make sure that referee sees your necessity to lace up shoes and actually stops the match!!!

You think they kicked you / pushed you? Show it to others (read: referee), try to fall down (but not if situation on the pitch extremely needs you)!! Remember the perfect fall of Marilu 2 games ago!!!Preferably, do it with a short scream (read: for referee to hear it). Tears in your eyes afterwards, perhaps (but then you need to look into eyes of referee to make sure he actually sees you crying). Or, ideally, fall with some small somersault... ok, kidding, for that we need training before. And, if seriously - they give yellow cards for simulation, too. So probably shoe laces are the safest option, after all.

BUT the good news here are that each of us have 2 shoes!!! You laced up the shoe of your right leg just 3 min ago? That doesn't mean the shoe of your left leg would mind obtaining the same careful attitude. AND particularly - try to help Bea with this approach in situations when there are several angolos in row!!! It is indeed important for the goalie to get even small breaks between them. And it equally helps calming down the defense and to have 15 spare sec to make it sure we really each still stick 1 to 1.

And when the ball has to be entered in the game from the line, don't rush there! In this case life is no Cinderella story, the pitch and the white line will still be there 10 sec later, trust me!! You can always SLOWLY walk those few metres, showing the most of dignity :DD Or walk there without ball firstly, then "remember" you need the ball and go back for it. Besides, can also ask for some phone numbers to opponent girls on your way to the line.

In other words, those who don't cherish seconds, won't save (valuable) minutes! :))
