Welcome to the Mad Cows' blog

Welcome to the Mad Cows' blog!

The Mad Cows is the EUI's female five-a-side soccer team. We play just for fun and absolute beginners are warmly welcomed. Playing with the Mad Cows is a nice way to do some sports and meet new people to share some beers with. The members of the Mad Cows come from all environments and all nationalities: EUI researchers from all the departments, partners, members of the staff and people from outside the EUI world.
See you on the pitch!

Let's enjoy the match!

Dear Mad (injured, lucky, dancing, colourful) Cows,

In spite of dozens of tentatives by Danai to complete the injured team yesterday, we are happy to say none got injured and we are still enough people to play today's match against Mugnone C5! It will take place at 21h in La Fontana (Pian di Mugnone)

The Squad list is the following:
1. Beatriz (as a goalie)
2. Beatrice
3. Inken 'Tiger, former Kaiser'
4. Mira 'Gazelle'
5. Elisa 'Collina' Piras -- latest news: NOT PLAYING! Hanna 'Brunette Torita' will play instead of her!
6. Sanne 'Blond Torita'
7. Elena 'The Climber'
8. Francesca J.
9. Danai 'Pum, I'm sorry!'

Of course we will need all the possible support from our Curva! Lai(l)a Fox Sánchez von Darth Vader (former Laia'), Loredana and Nú(t)ria will be there performing the Curva di lusso. Emillie, we will need you and your crutches in case Mugnone C5 would follow Libertas Bisenzio's way of playing!

The meeting point will be to Piazza Le Cure at 20h (MIRA, be punctuaaaal!).

The Word of Ieva for today's match:

Get on the pitch and… just enjoy being there! whatever happens!! :)

I mean, seriously, what was the point of all this at the very beginning? This question crossed my mind somewhen between the 3rd and 4th goal last Wednesday and haven’t quite left me since. It was supposed to be fun once, right?

Even if we make the mistakes of the century. Even if they are kicking us till broken toes. Even if we miss 5 shoots in row, each for some 20 inches. Even if that’s so cold you start longing to find thermal underwear in the basket of your Christmas presents. Even if referee speaks no (normal) language and doesn’t like foreigners (regardless of their IQ level). It all, it is NOT a tragedy yet. So shouldn’t yet be the end of the world, should it? (and yes, yes, I’m fully aware that me and my internal competitive child actually are the first persons in the team to be reminded of this :D)

Tragedy is when you go to supermarket to buy some bread and get killed due to collapsing roof construction. Tragedy is when somebody you love passes away and you realize you haven’t told how much you care. Tragedy is when it’s the 7th year in row of ph d and your supervisor still doesn’t think you are ready to defend. Tragedy is when you’re starving like hell, there’s only salamino pizza left in Al Peposo and suddenly you remember you are actually a vegetarian. Everything else – common, minor details of the life :)

In other words – get out there tonight and smile, and have fun!!! And meanwhile receive also some kicks, deliver some back (hopefully), score a couple of goals, make mistakes, sing a song, do some passes, obey our coach, the Wise and Wonderful, flirt with referee, if necessary and above all – ENJOY IT!!!

FORZA Toritas!!! And remember Curva “We are here for the Cows!!!!”
