Welcome to the Mad Cows' blog
Welcome to the Mad Cows' blog!
The Mad Cows is the EUI's female five-a-side soccer team. We play just for fun and absolute beginners are warmly welcomed. Playing with the Mad Cows is a nice way to do some sports and meet new people to share some beers with. The members of the Mad Cows come from all environments and all nationalities: EUI researchers from all the departments, partners, members of the staff and people from outside the EUI world.
See you on the pitch!
18 October 2013
Goal, goal, goooooooooal!
At the beginning of October we published a blogpost about trainings in September and how amazed we were about our achievements on the pitch! Incredibly, October is becoming still more amazing, because in just two trainings, last Monday and Wednesday, we scored 30 goals! And the week is not over yet, because tomorrow we have training as well: let's see if we can keep the average of 15 goals per training.
What is the secret? Maybe we have really effective strikers? Yes, we do! Maybe we have miles away defenders? Yes, we have that as well! Maybe we should start thinking in having one or two official goalies for the tournament and train them properly? Yes, we definitely should! Maybe the exercises and the running around the garden are making us stronger, quicker and more skilled? Yes, they are! Maybe we are improving and playing better? Of course, we are!
But the secret is our Mad Bull, our Atom Ant, our little coach: Jony! Although he is as injured as half of the team(!), his speed and his knowledge about which game positions work the best on the pitch in order to help the team and enhance the game is always an advantage for his players. On Wednesday it was quite depressing to have a score 9 to 1, but it also gave us the opportunity to learn how to manage our frustration and sadness, when we lost a match, because, though highly unlikely, this could happen in the tournament; it is up to us to take it positively and keep playing and do our best!
